Barb’s engagement (£28 I think- a lot for us) and wedding rings were bought by me from Prouds via dad and with her ok. (Warren & Susan rings in 2020 came from Prouds). The wedding ring was cremated with her as she never wanted to take it off, but had to for an MRI in RAH in 1988 and possibly for some operations.
Barb wanted me to get one about 1957 but didn’t say why. I can guess now, but then as almost always I spent almost nothing on me, and I had been warned in the RAAF of problems of ripped fingers as happened years later to Roger. Also we were paying off a “big” house loan. I was still occasionally getting hands dirty not only on cars and washing machines eg see AWRA photo of me needle peening under aluminium rail coal wagon. Also I was not going to, and never did, cheat on her.
I unconsciously partly compensated with an “eternity ring” in 1967 from Tiffany’s, NY which was not known in USA but was in AU and by and for us both. I gave it later to Alex as Barb would like. Alex got Tiffanys to re-stamp it in 2019.
